Overview: ABOUT US

The Rockdale Historical Society is a 501(c)(3).   Our mission is to preserve, restore, and share central Texas and railroad history for the generations to come.

The Society purchased the depot in 1999.  It was being used as a storage facility at that time and had fallen into disrepair.  The current brick depot building was built in 1906.  It served as the I&GN depot until the system was purchased by the Missouri Pacific in 1925.  After 45 years with MoPac,  it was closed for passenger service in 1970 and eventually sold to a private party.   Through tireless efforts by many individuals, generous donations, and grants from the Texas Historical Commission and others, the full restoration of this historic depot was completed in 2008.

The Depot is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a Texas Historic Landmark.
